This class will explore the fundamentals of clay art using slab, coil, mold and extrusion techniques.  Receive an introduction to the basics of clay art construction, glazing and firing, and take part in every step of the process.  Participants will be guided, mentored and inspired by experienced potters and clay artists. Projects will include a variety of techniques, surface decorations and firing techniques. Multiple forms of completed pottery pieces will be yours to take home.  No experience necessary.

This unique workshop will present elements of Horticulture Therapy, Ikebana Flower Arranging and Flower Pounding.  Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral design, is more than the mere arrangement of greenery, it is a lifestyle.  While flowers and plants are the product of mother nature, Ikebana is the product of an individual’s creativity and imagination in the arrangement of nature’s own materials.  Flower pounding is the art of printing on fabric using flowers.  The therapy is working with fresh flowers and through creating arrangements and fabrics learning plants unique characteristics to enrich and renew.

Mary will guide you as you enjoy your lunch.  Stroll through the gardens to create your own photography.  Disposable cameras will be provided for the class.  A CD of the group’s pictures will be developed and provided for you.

Demonstration of creating a grapevine wreath, constructive grapevine wreath will be provided.  Natural decorations and ribbon will be provided for each participant to decorate their own wreaths.  You will learn techniques for a lifetime of grapevine wreath making.  Bring Clippers

We will discuss the benefits of aromatherapy as a health practice with emphasis on the holiday season.  Learn to identify therapeutic-grade essential oils and their properties. We will review and smell commonly used oils during this season and identify their qualities for health along with safety factors.  We will prepare an aromatic blend and potpourri at our last class.

It is all in the presentation and this workshop will give you the techniques to design beautiful one of a kind packages.  You will learn the elements of making bows, to top off any package or wreath.  We will have supplies for each participant to make their own bow, but feel free to bring your own ribbon as well to continue the learning.  Along with bow making you will see presentations on using natural materials to accent your packages, as well as crisp looking wrapping techniques.  This workshop will give you the tools to make beautiful packages for years to come.

We will provide a wreath frame, plenty of cut boxwood, and a wide variety of natural materials dried to decorate the wreath. Instructor Mona Macksey will present design elements, trimming your own boxwood, and maintaining your wreath. With staying power that lasts through the holidays and beyond, this workshop will help make your holidays special.
